Take a most unusual US-Mexico road trip with VFH Fellow Charlie Thompson. A former farmer turned activist, Duke University professor Charlie Thompson is the author of Border Odyssey: Travels along the US-Mexico Divide.

Border Odyssey is a compelling chronicle of a journey along the entire U.S.-Mexico border that shifts the conversation away from danger and fear to the shared histories and aspirations that bind Mexicans and Americans despite the border walls.

Thompson will talk about his Steinbeck-inspired travels (think Travels with Charley), show the carefully chosen route – towns on both sides, avoiding highways, and often as he says so well “the useful fiction of a map” – and the best photographs he took along the way.

This talk is free and open to the public. A light lunch will be provided.
